Oxymoron also known as Xymo is a MenuetOS virus by Second Part to Hell. It is the first MenuetOS virus. It was published in issue 5 of Ready Rangers Liberation Front and featured in their "Best of" issue.

Behavior

When a file infected with Oxymoron is executed, the virus searches for files. It checks for a number of things to ensure it's working on an infectable file, including if it's a deleted file, if it's a directory, and if it's an executable. It also checks if the virus has enough reserved memory and if the virus has been infected. If the file is infectable, it reads the file into memory. Oxymoron then writes itself to the end of the file. It then marks the file as infected and saves it.

The virus contains the message "1st Menuet Virus (Oxymoron) by Second Part To Hell".

Origin

Oxymoron was coded in Austria from February to June of 2004. It appeared in issue 5 of the Ready Rangers Liberation Front magazine as well as their "Best of" issue. When asked about his most memorable viruses in an interview, Oxymoron was the second he mentioned (first being Cassandra and his other MenuetOS creation, Tristesse coming in third). The name come from the idea that a MenuetOS virus would be an oxymoron, and Second Part to Hell proved that it was not.
